Business plan: soap making. Soap making as a profitable business at home - where to start and how to succeed? Business ideas for soap making

In our city, in one shopping center, in a small department, handmade soap is sold. A long time ago I came in to smell it - it smelled very nice - and bought a piece.

What else I liked about this soap, besides the smell - it lathered well, it didn’t dry out my skin and didn’t sting my eyes. And there was a very pleasant smell in the bathroom - you go into the bathroom and get a free aromatherapy session.

I remembered about this soap a year later, when I stopped liking regular soap - it dries out the skin, stings the eyes, the assortment in the store is simply meager (except for Palmolive, Saveguard and the terrible Nevskaya cosmetics - there is practically nothing).

I decided to start making soap at home (I don’t want to constantly buy soap for 200 rubles), and at the same time I studied how others make money from this and how you, too, can turn soap making into your own home business.

Soap making process

The soap making process itself is not complicated. Nowadays many ready-made components are sold that you just need to mix and pour into molds - here you have ready-made soap. All this can be done at home.

For example, you take a ready-made soap base (sold in many online stores) and melt it in a water bath or in the microwave. Then fatty oil, coloring and flavoring are added to the liquid mass. And everything is poured into molds. Within a day, the soap will thicken and can be used (you will find more detailed recipes on the Internet or special books on home soap making; in particular, there are options for both hot and cold soap making; you can make cosmetic soap at home, or you can make medicinal soap ; there are shampoo soaps, washcloth soaps, scrub soaps, anti-cellulite soaps, dishwashing soaps, liquid soaps - you can create a huge range).

You can find more accurate soap making recipes on specialized websites on the Internet, on YouTube and in books:

Cost of homemade soap

Let's estimate the cost of the simplest homemade soap (to know how much you can earn from one piece).

Approximate composition of handmade soap:

1. Soap base (English, German costs 230 rubles per 1 kg) - 100 g, i.e. 23 rubles.
2. Fatty oil (for example, apricot kernel oil - 550 rubles per liter) - 1 ml, i.e. less than 1 ruble.
3. Dye (80 rubles per 100 g) - 4-7 drops, i.e. less than 1 ruble.
4. Flavoring (90 rubles per 1 kg) - 3 ml, i.e. 5 rubles.

In total, the simplest natural homemade soap can be made at a cost of approximately 30 rubles per 100-gram piece (I do not include the cost of molds and dishes in the cost of soap, since they can be used almost an infinite number of times).

And such soap is sold for at least 100 rubles (more often - 130-150 rubles per bar).

(showcase “Masters Fair” - livemaster.ru)

(Experienced craftswomen make the soap base themselves, so for them the cost of soap can be even lower.)

Where to get ingredients for making homemade soap

Go to tiu.ru. Type what you need to find into the search bar and get a list of suppliers.

It happens that some suppliers sell only soap base, others - fatty oils, and still others - food coloring. Look for what is most profitable for you, don’t be lazy. Because prices from different suppliers sometimes vary several times.

You can team up with several soap makers (by finding them, for example, on VKontakte) and make a joint wholesale order (with a significant discount), and then divide the goods among yourself.

Where to sell soap

You can sell your soap:

1. To her friends and acquaintances (this is how Alena Radtseva from Barnaul started, who several years ago was left without work and decided to survive by making soap. She gave the first copies of her soap to her friends. Those, surprised by the effect, told their acquaintances. Thanks to word of mouth, Alena has her first clients. Read Alena Radtseva's detailed interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper - kp.ru/daily/24270/466160/).

2. Through organizing master classes in your city. Then you will sell raw materials for making homemade soap to your students at a small markup.

3. By participating in various festivals and fairs, as one of the soap sellers does at the Crafts Fair - Joy and Soap - livemaster.ru/joysoap. Read her blog on livemaster.ru, watch how she presents her products - it will be very useful to you.

4. Throwing house parties (see: How to Sell Crafts? Throw a Party!).

5. You can take your soap to a suitable store for sale (flower shop, gift shop, cosmetics department, etc.).

6. If you receive certificates for your products (like Alena Radtseva), you will be able to sell your goods en masse - open your own department in the store (as the Stenders representative office opened in the shopping center of our city - and has been trading quite successfully for several years), conclude agreements with other stores, open your own online store.

7. You can open your own group on Odnoklassniki or Vkontakte and sell your products to your classmates.

8. At the Masters Fair - livemaster.ru.
If you look at sales in the Handmade Cosmetics section, you will see that homemade soaps sell quite well. It is sold not only as a cosmetic or medicinal soap, but also as a gift.

9. If you live in a Western country, you can quite successfully sell your soap on the most popular resource for crafters etsy.com. I found one seller etsy.com/shop/dennisanderson) on etsy.com - Dennis Anderson, who made over 33,400 sales of his homemade soap in 3.5 years!

Dennis Anderson in his office

Moreover, he started as an amateur, and began selling from the first day of registration on etsy.com (you can see the history of his sales on etsy.com yourself). Today he is the owner of Anderson Soap Company - andersonsoapcompany.com:

Advice from experienced people

I read an interview with soap businessman Dennis Anderson on the website handmadenews.org (handmadenews.org/article/index.php?id=3744), and found out that he almost doesn’t work offline (except for participating in various events and exhibitions where always gives out his business cards and discount coupons for his goods sold on etsy.com), since there are a lot of orders online.

He sells primarily online through etsy.com, as well as fulfilling wholesale orders from existing customers.

As he reports, for business development it is very important:

1. Have your own website to which you can always send a potential client (from the Internet or from reality).

2. Conduct ongoing work with your visitors by conducting mailing lists and participating in social networks.

3. Visit thematic forums - you can find a lot of valuable information there.

4. Take high-quality photographs of your product.

6. Always look for new ideas for your product and ideas for promoting it.

By the way, I noticed that on etsy.com he always sells only one unit of his product. This allows the potential buyer to feel that the product they like is the last one (and needs to be bought urgently before someone else buys it). It also allows his product to often appear at the top of new product listings.

You can also watch successful sellers (on etsy.com or livemaster.ru) and see: what they sell, what price they set, how they present their product, what they write on their blog, what reviews customers give them.

And do the same and even better.

Pros of a home soap making business

1. If in the West soap making at home has already conquered the market, in Russia this market is just being developed. You will be one of the first.

2. This is a business with almost zero investment.

3. The market has already been tested, the product is in demand. You can start with confidence.

4. Soap is a constantly consumed product. If your customer likes your product, he will become your regular customer.

5. You don’t have to be afraid of stale copies of the product. It can either be consumed for personal purposes or melted down and reused in other combinations.

6. Freedom of creativity - you can constantly experiment, find new types of goods that are in highest demand at the moment.

Update dated 11/11/13. I have long wanted to write my additional impression about homemade soap products.

I bought her homemade soap from Alena Radtseva (the heroine of this article). It looks nice, no doubt about it. And it smells natural. But it dries the skin very much and eats the eyes! I also bought hair soap from her - it’s something killer for hair. You cannot wash your hair and body with this soap. In my opinion, there is a lot of alkali there.

I also ordered soap (solid and liquid) from Dennis Anderson (via Etsy; the package arrived, by the way, exactly a month after ordering). Solid soap is so-so, nothing special. Cute, smells nice. But the liquid soap, which he positioned as an organic product for everything, including washing dishes, horrified me. I tried to wash my pan with it - this liquid ingrained itself into the walls of the pan so much that I only washed it after two years. It feels like it’s not soap, but oil (yellow). This viscous mass cannot be washed off with anything until it comes off on its own over time.

Yes, I found another needlewoman in my city via the Internet (she had her own online store, although they were more tears than an online store). She sold soap only to order. I ordered her two pieces. Two days later, her husband went to her house, gave her money and received the goods. Brought it home. I turned it around and was upset. This needlewoman stuffed her homemade soap with artificial flavors (I dreamed of smelling natural soap). Such disgusting! (she probably thought that people wouldn’t distinguish an artificial smell from a natural one). Of course, I will never order anything from her again.

Therefore, please be extremely careful with homemade soap.

It's not that safe.

A ready-made business plan with calculations and examples for launching a project related to the production of soap. Find out where to start and where to look for potential clients.

In dreams, everything is simple: you just need to devote more time to your hobby and you will become a successful businessman. In reality, everything is not so rosy. In soap production, an increase in the volume of goods produced entails not only an increase in purchases of raw materials. This leads to a radical change in production technology, product range and sales market.

How not to make mistakes in calculations and make your dreams come true profitably? Which form of organization should I choose? How long will it take to get approval from regulatory authorities? How to scale your business correctly? We will talk about all this today.

Why soap making is a good business idea

Many people dream of turning their favorite hobby into a source of income. It’s great to go to work as if it were a holiday and earn decent money at the same time.

This is exactly what my neighbor Alena thought, who first made soap for fun, and then decided to organize her own production. I turned to her as an expert and now I am sharing with you the recommendations I received.

When opening a business, the girl already had experience in home soap making. She had already bought several silicone molds, dyes, fragrances and was eager to not only give, but also sell her products.

After a preliminary study of the issue, Alena came to the conclusion that this direction has good prospects:

  • soap is a necessary hygiene item and the need for it is high;
  • production technology does not require special knowledge and experience;
  • You can start a business at home - most of the equipment is already in every kitchen;
  • large investments at the launch stage are not required;
  • raw materials are available even in small towns;
  • there is no waste during the production of goods (you can always digest a failed piece or even a whole batch);
  • the assortment can be easily changed to suit any market needs;
  • both raw materials and the final product are not perishable.

Market and competitor analysis

Taking the step from passion to business project, aspiring entrepreneurs receive important information from future competitors.

Soap making begins with market research

Soap is a unique product presented in several market segments:

  1. Hygiene product. For sanitary purposes, solid and liquid bases are used in large packages. The main market players are large manufacturers with a small assortment. Sales occur through chain or specialized stores.
  2. Synthetic detergent. This includes soap with stain-removing properties and laundry soap. It differs from the previous segment in composition and modest packaging or its complete absence.
  3. Related medical products. This group includes products containing medicinal substances (antibiotics, essential oils for medical purposes) or lightweight (hypoallergenic, without fragrances or dyes). They are sold through store and pharmacy chains and the Internet.
  4. Present. This segment includes beautifully packaged, decorative specimens. These products are sold in online and offline stores. Here you have to compete with flowers, sweets and even socks on the eve of February 23rd.
  5. Creative items. This group echoes the previous one, complementing it.

Step-by-step production plan

Let's get to practice!

To avoid mistakes, follow the expert step-by-step plan.

Step 1. Selecting a room

To start a full-fledged production of handmade soap, you will need a suitable premises.

Basic requirements for the production hall:

  • ceiling height of 3 meters or more;
  • the presence of a floor slope to drain condensate into the sewer system;
  • interior decoration with washable materials, such as tiles;
  • compliance of internal lighting with production standards;
  • availability of central heating;
  • electrical network with a capacity of more than 60 kWh;
  • mains voltage – 380 V;
  • the presence of a water supply with additional filters (for softening);
  • ventilation system.

Please note that if the premises do not meet the stated requirements, additional equipment and repairs will increase the amount of investment in the business.

The area directly depends on the soap production option:

  1. Industrial production with installation of a production line. For starting equipment producing no more than 80 kg/h. finished products, a room of at least 60 sq.m. (up to 85 – 90 sq.m.) is selected. The specific size of the workshop is indicated in the accompanying documentation for industrial equipment (technical data sheet, etc.) and depends on its brand.
  2. Manual cooking. The minimum size of the room for work without the use of automated equipment is 30 sq.m.
  3. Homemade soap making. If the production volume is small, renting additional premises is unprofitable. Most craftswomen make exclusive products in their own kitchen.

Please note: a separate room is allocated for packaging (except for the use of special automatic equipment) and storage of finished products. Its area is calculated depending on the daily volume of cooking.

Step 2. Business registration

If a hobby has grown into its own business, it needs to be formalized. For entrepreneurial activity of this scale, one chooses between an LLC and an individual entrepreneur.

The table will clearly show the difference:

Comparison criteria IP OOO
Status individual entity
Package of documents minimum full
Registration fee 800 4000
Authorized capital absent from 10 000
Number of owners 1 from 1 to 50 people
Sale or re-registration not provided possible
Liability amount with all my property within the authorized capital
Penalties cannot exceed 50,000 up to 1 million
Bank account optional required
Disposal of funds free from a current account for the needs of the enterprise, dividends are issued with the payment of additional tax
Business solutions free are logged
Field of activity limited no limits
Cooperation with large companies difficult preferably
Deadlines for liquidation 5 working days from 2.5 months

Please note: the individual entrepreneur is liable with all his property, even after the cessation of production activities and liquidation of the business.

Step 3. Purchase of raw materials and equipment

The choice of ingredients and equipment is influenced by the production method. Let's consider equipment for soap making.

Automatic and semi-automatic production lines are suitable for industrial production. The market offers domestic and imported equipment options that can satisfy any need.

Prices vary depending on the power and completeness of the lines. On Chinese sites, the minimum cost of a complete set starts from 1 million rubles (excluding transportation costs).

For manual cooking you will need:

  1. Plate. Opt for the gas option.
  2. Containers for cooking the base (vats). The cost of 3-4 vats of different sizes, with a non-oxidizing surface, is 3,000 - 5,000 rubles.
  3. Professional choppers (electric and mechanical) and mixers are useful in the manufacture of small decorative items. On professional equipment websites, the cost starts from 15,000 rubles.
  4. Molds, auxiliary containers, graters, etc. about 30,000.

With such expenses, the cost of solid soap from a ready-made soap base is about 65 rubles. When moving to a full production cycle from scratch (from fat and alkali), it will decrease by 25-40%.

When making soap at home, the utensils available in the kitchen are suitable.

Advice from Alena: Only non-oxidizing utensils that do not interact with ingredients are suitable. For example, glass and enamel pans are good choices, but a wooden spoon is not.

The choice of raw materials depends on the manufacturing method:

  • in the full production cycle, alkalis (sodium and/or potassium) and fats of animal and vegetable origin are used;
  • For production from the finished substrate, a matte or transparent soap base is purchased.

Additional oils (superfat), dyes, fragrances, decorative elements are used for the production of any hygienic detergent. The exception is laundry soap.

Step 4. Recruitment

The selection of soap makers, technologists, storekeepers and packagers is carried out on a competitive basis. Preference is given to employees with similar experience.

Look for candidates on specialized sites. Review resumes from the labor exchanges in your city.

Step 5. Coordination with SES and fire services

Soap is not included in the list of goods that are subject to mandatory certification. However, to sell it, you must contact the SES. There you will receive a certificate of conformity for the product.

The complete package for registration of permits at the SES includes:

  • certificate of registration of a legal entity;
  • certificate of registration with the tax authority;
  • confirmation of the legality of renting the premises;
  • technical specifications (in the absence of production compliance with GOST);
  • technological instructions (regulations);
  • samples of each type of product (5 pieces of all types, 100 g each);
  • packaging material and name labels;
  • description of the recipe with the percentage of ingredients included;
  • certificates for the raw materials used.

A hygienic certificate based on tests carried out on samples is issued after 3-5 weeks.

The soap making room must pass an SES inspection

Room for soap production equipped with a fire alarm. Security company specialists design, install, and subsequently maintain installed devices.

Step 6. Starting a business and finding clients

From this moment, begin to organize the supply of raw materials, production and sales. To build a stable business, choose reliable suppliers, work out technological processes and delivery methods.

Look for customers according to the market segment that the product is aimed at. You need to position (target towards a specific group) your product correctly.

For example, at the very beginning of the production of gift soap, Alena thought of it as hygienic. Obviously, she failed to sell it to cosmetic stores and salons, and she found her main clients in groups of young mothers.

How and where to look for clients - marketing plan

The success of a business is assessed by the level of product sales and profitability.

Let's compare several sales channels:

Sales channel Characteristic Peculiarities
Organizing your own point of sale A small department in a shopping center, a kiosk or a store on the first line with a large flow of people, close to other points of sale to your target audience. Requires constant additional costs for rent, repairs, seller, etc.
The shops Network or profile. Long implementation period.
Pharmacies Private pharmacies (preferably chain pharmacies). Limited assortment for sale.
Beauty Salons Beauty salons, hairdressers selling care products. A good option for disseminating information to clients.
Exhibitions and fairs Events for local producers or thematic (for September 1, City Day, etc.). A rare but good opportunity to study all competitors in one place.
Internet Website, landing page, contextual advertising, etc. Will require additional investment.
Social media VK, Instagram, Odnoklassniki. Running a specialized group is profitable, but requires investment.

Income and expenses - financial plan

Drawing up a financial plan will help you make the decision to switch from a hobby to a business:

Monthly expenses:

The average price of 1 finished copy is 100 rubles.

The output of finished products is 6,000 pieces.

The amount for all goods is 600,000 rubles.

Starting capital 505,000 rubles.

Profit per month is 210,000 rubles.

Please note that to obtain such a profit, you need to sell 200 bars of soap daily.

Overview of possible risks

Despite the relative simplicity of production, this business is not without risks.

Let us highlight the following difficulties in making handmade solid soap:

  1. Finding clients and developing a sales channel. The client base is being formed gradually. Often the influx of people wanting to buy soap does not keep up with its release. In this case, overstocking occurs and there begins to be a shortage of not only money for wages, but also for the purchase of raw materials for the next batch. This is especially true for the sale of gift and decorative items. Little is known about them. And having bought handmade soap several times, clients exhaust their friends and acquaintances who have not yet received such gifts.
  2. Compliance with technology. Soap making is a simple production process, but it has its own characteristics. If you add more dye or fragrance, violate the proportions of adding oils, or do not allow the finished product to settle or “mature” before packaging, the finished product will lose its presentation. Remelting will require additional time.
  3. Obtaining a certificate of conformity. Even if the manufacturing technology is strictly followed, the SES will issue permits no earlier than 3 weeks. It happens that the period for obtaining a certificate extends for several months.
  4. Low quality raw materials.

Ways to minimize risks:

Risk A way to overcome difficulties
Slow growth of customer base Start advertising before large quantities are released. Promote finished products in mass social networking groups. Carry out promotions, encouraging customers to bring their friends.
Loss of presentation Maintain the ratio of ingredients, maintain the manufacturing technology (temperature, humidity and speed).
Delay in receiving certificate Provide the SES with a complete package of documents. Personally supervise the transfer of prototypes for testing. Start certification with time to spare before the start of main production.
Receiving low quality raw materials Conduct a trial production of a small piece of soap from each new batch of raw materials. Purchase raw materials from trusted manufacturers.

Download business plan

For a more detailed look at the features of producing handmade soap, I suggest downloading one of the business plan options for free.

It is easy to change and transform to suit local features. For example, Alena installed a security alarm, which reduced the cost of a night security guard.

Remember

  1. Don’t confuse a hobby with a full-time job: what makes you happy once a quarter will be a daily burden, and you need to choose it wisely.
  2. Sell the product for its intended purpose: children's assortment in groups for mothers, decorative items in gift departments. Don't sell everything to everyone.
  3. Hire a technologist to create a recipe. In the future, all you have to do is implement his recommendations.
  4. Find clients first, and only then start large-scale soap production.
  5. (3 ratings, average: 5,00 out of 5)

If you believe the forecasts of experienced entrepreneurs, then this year the demand for soap products will increase by almost 40%, which means that novice businessmen who are looking for where to invest their savings can engage in just this type of income in order to reach a high level in a short time. income level. In this article, we will present homemade soap making recipes for beginners that will help you quickly set up a business and become a successful entrepreneur.

Features of the soap making business

Soap making as a business arose in ancient times. This fact is confirmed by archaeological excavations in Egypt, Greece and Rome. As scientists have found out, back in the distant years BC, people learned to make soap from vegetable and animal fats with alkali and successfully sell it. Nowadays, you can also make good money selling soap if you properly organize home soap making as a business.

Before we move on to describing what you need to do first to start making soap at home, we will list a few important features that are very important to learn right away:

    • The first thing to start with soap making as a business is to pay great attention to the issue of studying the experience of craftsmen who professionally produce soap. It is not necessary to attend paid courses; you can watch videos available to everyone on the Internet and detailed master classes on soap making for beginners to start engaging in this entrepreneurial activity;
  • In the process of learning the basics of this business, you need to figure out what properties and what quality real natural soap should be. As a rule, masters use solid oils to make the soap dry and become hard - after all, there is a great demand for solid soap, not liquid soap. It is extremely important that the soap looks original and has a pleasant aroma. You must understand what the highlight of your product will be so that your handmade soap making will generate income and be a good competitor to other entrepreneurs who have been making soap at home as a business for a long time. And here we recommend that you learn one important rule, where to start soap making and how to succeed, this is to produce soap for health;
  • This does not require large investments or special skills. As practice shows, anyone can start making soap at home for beginners. The main thing here is to have a desire to work and create beautiful things for people.

If you are interested in this and you want to develop in it, then you will need to follow these steps:

  • Register your mini-soap factory as a home business with the tax office;
  • Rent a room in which you will produce soap, although this is not necessary. Even many experienced entrepreneurs in this industry advise saving on renting premises;
  • Draw up a business plan for making soap at home (we are talking about expenses that you will definitely have to make in order to be able to work fully). By the way, on the Internet you can download a ready-made business plan for soap making from scratch, so that, based on it, you can create your own if you have never encountered before how to create a business plan for soap making;
  • Purchase the necessary equipment and material for making soap;
  • Select staff if you immediately want to produce a large quantity of goods or very exclusive ones. But in the first stages this is not at all necessary. You can watch a video of soap making at home for beginners, learn the basics, and work independently, involving children and other members of your family in the process.

Having mastered all the above nuances, you will quickly decide for yourself, and in any other country too.

Advantages and disadvantages

Of course, as in any business, homemade soap making for beginners from a soap base has both advantages and disadvantages. Let's first talk about the positive aspects of this business:

  • High demand for products, which is constantly growing;
  • No need to make large investments;
  • There is an opportunity to fantasize and create, knowing the rules for making soap products.

As for the most obvious disadvantages of this, they include the following:

  • Often force majeure circumstances arise, due to which it is not possible to produce soap in large quantities. As a result, problems arising from this arise - there are no raw materials, time and not enough money to purchase the necessary material and equipment;
  • If you do not issue a quality certificate for your products, then the risk of constant problems with the SES increases - and these are fines. But in order to make such a document, you will have to undergo testing in SES laboratories and pay a certain amount of money according to the tariff.

These are, perhaps, all the difficulties that you may encounter in soap making.

Technology for making soap at home

There are only three basic recipes for making soap at home for beginners:
  1. From unscented baby soap;
  2. From any liquid or solid soap base;
  3. From vegetable or fatty oils with soda ash.

Using any of the above means as a basis, you can make soap - the technology is always the same:

    • Grind the soap base. It is best to grate it on a medium grater;
    • We set to heat the water for a water bath, in which the soap will melt to a liquid consistency;
    • Add any oil you like to the resulting liquid soap, exclusively of the hard variety (butter oil) - one teaspoon per 30 g of soap. If you add essential oil instead of solid oil, the soap simply will not harden;
    • You need to add something liquid to the soap mixture you get. This can be milk or cream, water or herbal infusion (you can even add sugar). Experts recommend adding water carefully so as not to cause the soap to separate;
    • Stir the soap so that you get a uniform consistency of liquid sour cream without impurities or lumps;
  • Remove the container with the soapy liquid from the heat, and then add additional ingredients to it - dyes, some flavors and vitamins (for example, coffee, green tea, cinnamon), but only those that you are sure of;
  • Fill the molds prepared in advance with soap base, and sprinkle the resulting free mass with alcohol so that no bubbles form on it;
  • Wait until the soap hardens completely in the refrigerator (hardening time will depend on what ingredients you added) until it is as hard as store-bought soap (do not sell it if it wrinkles in your hands like plasticine);
  • Decorate the soap with glitter, pearlescent varnish, or some kind of water-soluble picture. All decorative elements are sold freely in online stores;
  • Give your soap some originality - purchase a stamp in the form of an inscription or some kind of design. The stamp, sprayed with alcohol, should be placed in the mold before pouring soap liquid into it so that it is “soldered” into the solidified soap. You can detach the stamp from it using an ordinary pin.

All that remains is to pack the finished soap in a beautiful plastic or cardboard box, or wrap it in floral cellophane.

Equipment

Another important point on where to start soap making at home is the purchase of special professional equipment. Such equipment includes:

  • Electronic culinary scales;
  • Cooking thermometer;
  • A blender with which you can mix different ingredients for soap;
  • Soap molds (although you can also use regular baking molds);
  • Goggles and gloves if you will be working with alkali;
  • Kitchen utensils: a large saucepan made of stainless steel and the same spoons, several two-liter containers that can be placed in the microwave or in a frying pan, measuring cups, disposable towels, rubber spatulas, plastic basins in which you can wash dishes.

In order not to look for all of the above tools for work in different stores, because this is costly and time-consuming, you can immediately purchase a soap-making kit for beginners. It has everything a novice soap maker might need in the initial stages. In the future, when the business can be expanded, you will have to purchase higher quality equipment. An online store specialized for soap making is the place where you can buy everything for soap making at reasonable prices.

Financial investments

As we have already mentioned, the business idea of soap making is very profitable because it does not require any special expenses if you plan to work independently at home. Some girls who are on maternity leave claim that their starting capital did not exceed 5,000 rubles; they did not even have to draw up a business plan for soap making.

In this article, we have compiled an approximate business plan for soap making at home with calculations for those who have decided to start a business for the first time in their lives (it will not include the cost of renting premises, since there is no need for it):

  • To register your small enterprise and be able to legally sell soap, you need 800 rubles (this is the fee to the tax service for opening a state of emergency);
  • The necessary equipment that we mentioned above will require approximately 30,000 rubles;
  • To purchase soap base, if you are expected to make 1000 bars of soap per month, you need 16,000 rubles;
  • You will need to spend 2,000 rubles on additional ingredients for this amount of soap.

Thus, the starting capital for starting a semi-professional business related to soap making should be approximately 50,000 rubles.

Profit

It will cost:

  • 100 g of soap base – 23 rubles;
  • 1 ml butter – 1 ruble;
  • 7 drops of dye – 1 ruble;
  • 3 ml of flavoring – 5 rubles.

That is, one hundred-gram piece of homemade natural soap costs 30 rubles, but you can sell it for at least 100 rubles. As practice shows, homemade soap sells for 150 rubles. That is, earnings from one piece will be 70 rubles, and if you sell a batch of 1000 pieces per month, then 70,000 rubles. But soap is just that, and in large quantities, to get a higher income.

That is, in literally one month, provided that you are able to quickly set up your business, you will not only recoup your investment, but also see real income.

Options for selling finished products

Having learned the technology of making soap, it is important to think about your sales market - who will buy soap from you, who it will be aimed at. This is necessary to avoid investment risks - situations when there is nowhere to sell your products.

Starting a business doesn't require a lot of money. But experience in soap making is desirable. It is better for novice craftsmen to familiarize themselves with detailed information about soap making and technologies for making soap at home. It is important to take care of the quality of ingredients and beautiful packaging for finished products, then good earnings will not keep you waiting long.

This activity is attractive because with a small investment, which pays off within the first 4-5 months of work, it gives very good results. The profitability of this type of activity at home is about 40-50%, which is not bad at all.

In this case, earnings will depend only on the master who decided to start a home business. What this will cost him will be discussed in the article.

Production technology

There are several ways to make soap at home. They differ in the material that is used, as well as the manufacturing process.

Soap making methods

Soap can be made from the base, that is, ready-made industrial soap. For this purpose, baby soap is most often purchased, since it does not contain, or contains a small amount of additives, fragrances, and dyes.

For beginners making soap at home, you need to purchase transparent or matte colorless and odorless industrial soap base. This foundation is purchased in specialized stores, of which there are now many on the Internet. (one such convenient resource is the website www.aroma-beauty.ru).

Making soap from scratch is a labor-intensive process that requires not only skill and experience, but also basic knowledge of chemical processes. In this case, you will have to deal with aggressive alkali and animal or vegetable fats, which during the cooking process are saponified and transformed into soap.

Manufacturing stages

  1. Melting the base (or cooking from scratch). The base is crushed, placed in a special container and melted in two ways: on the stove or in the microwave (the container is selected accordingly).
  2. Adding essences to the melted mass (fragrance oils, perfumes, vanilla, honey, etc.).
  3. Touching up the base. Anything your imagination suggests can be suitable for this, but you should add it gradually and not overdo it.
  4. Other additives. These can be vegetable oils, scrub ingredients - poppy seeds, sugar, chopped herbs, ground coffee, etc.
  5. Pouring into forms. Everything is simple here: a child’s “pasochka”, plastic boxes and trays for butter or cheese, baking dishes can be used as a mold, or you can buy ready-made molds in specialty stores, but this will be a little more expensive.
  6. Extraction from forms.

Business income and expenses: simple calculation

We’ve sorted out the process of making soap, now it’s worth thinking about the price of a home business.
Soap production costs are divided into permanent And one-time.

Fixed costs:

  • Basic raw materials for making soap (this is the main cost of the entire business - about 85%)- from 200 rubles per 1 kg - for wholesale buyers, and 300 rubles - for retail buyers. This includes: soap base, essential oils, additives and beneficial ingredients.
  • One-time costs (their cost will be gradually transferred to the final product):
  • Tools (scissors, knife, brushes, spoon, wire, etc.)- 200 rubles.
  • Table scales: 400 &- 1500 rubles.
  • Pan: 200 - 400 rubles.
  • Forms for filling: from 40 to 100 rubles.
  • Other expenses: 100 - 300 rubles.

Master Class

The income of a soap production business will depend only on the master: what quality the finished soap will be, the design and variety of its forms, advertising of one’s own product, the desire and desire to sell, the resources involved in sales.

However, we can already say that at many online fairs, craftsmen sell ready-made soap at a price of: 50 gram piece - from 80 rubles per piece, a 100-gram piece is already from 150 rubles. At the same time, more refined and unique products are more expensive in price and are sold from 200 rubles per unit.

We are looking for buyers

After making soap with your own hands, the question arises about selling it. Soap is considered an “impulse” product, which means that it will be a very successful option when you can sell your finished products through gift and souvenir shops and beauty salons.

If possible, or when the business gets back on its feet, it makes sense to open your own small specialized handmade soap department in a high-traffic store (in this case, the rental cost will be from 6,000 rubles).

Internet resources will also help you realize the results of your own creativity, such as the following craft fairs: www.livemaster.ru, www.hand-made.ru, selio.ru, craftmarketplace.blogspot.com, www.lovemade.ru. Online auctions also have their own audience. The above-mentioned resources are visited by thousands of network users every day.
