“The girl suffers from a primary immunodeficiency, the so-called chronic granulomatosis, and related complications, in particular, from prolonged colitis. We are preparing Varya for an urgent transplantation of a healthy bone marrow, as it is the only one that provides reliable treatment for CGD. At our center, we have extensive experience in transplantations for CGD - the patient survival rate is about 95%.”

We have faced this terrible disease twice. The first daughter Christina died at the age of two and a half due to the fact that doctors could not establish her primary immunodeficiency in time. Two years after the tragedy, I became pregnant again. Knowing that Christina's illness was caused by genetic disorders, my husband and I underwent the necessary examinations. Analyzes showed that we are not carriers of the disease.

Varya was born in September 2015. She spent the first six months of her life in hospitals. Severe diagnoses followed one after another: sepsis, bronchitis, pneumonia, fungal infection in the lungs. Finally, Moscow doctors diagnosed him with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), primary immunodeficiency. This is a genetic breakdown in the development of the immune system. The body does not resist infections, and some bacteria are deadly for it. As it turned out, in 85% of cases of CGD, boys are sick, and the mother is the carrier. Since no genetic damage was detected in my husband and I, it is possible that someone from the previous generations of our family was the carrier of the disease.

Varya was prescribed maintenance therapy: a daily loading dose of antifungal drugs and antibiotics. The only cure for Varya is a foreign bone marrow transplant (BMT). As they explained to me, when a healthy bone marrow is transplanted, the genetic code changes, the donor cells begin to work “correctly” and destroy the infection that enters the body.

On the Internet and from other families where children with the same diagnosis had already undergone BMT, I learned about the University Children's Hospital Zurich (Switzerland), where a special protocol for preparing a patient for BMT has been developed.

With the help of kind people, we collected money and went to Zurich for an examination. It turned out that Varya developed a serious inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract - colitis - against the background of CGD. Due to the serious condition of our daughter, we were not allowed to go home, they began to treat her for colitis.

Now Swiss doctors insist on urgent BMT. We paid for the search for an unrelated donor, but the cost of transplantation is unbearable for us. 280,000 Swiss francs (that's 16,602,404 rubles) is the price of our daughter's life. If BMT is not performed within the next few months, Varya will die. Please, help!

The girl was successfully treated for intestinal inflammation at the University Children's Clinic of Zurich (Switzerland), her condition has stabilized. The doctors decided that Varya was ready for a transplant - she was scheduled for October 18th. But the unexpected happened: the donor became seriously ill. BMT will take place as soon as the donor recovers. The transplant room is reserved for the girl.
